The Armed Forces Hospital, Southern Region was original established in 1964 to serve a fundamental healthcare need in the region. The facility serves the employees of the Ministry of Defence, and also acts as a referral hospital for other hospitals in the region, including for the provision of open-heart surgery services and kidney transplants. Over the course of four decades, the hospital has expanded to a 609 bedded facility.
The hospital is located town of Khamis Mushayt in the south western region of Saudi Arabia, and is primarily an agricultural region.
